Moment like this are the time I miss my country home Philippines. It's so much different here when it comes to celebrating Christmas and New Year. In the Philippines, people are so busy preparing and cooking for New Year. Mostly, as tradition, people will buy and collect 12 candies and 12 fruits as it's means or bring good luck for the coming year. And before even midnight of December 31, you can already hear different firecrackers and feel how excited all the people in the neighborhood are for the coming year...
But here you can never feel the spirit of New Year. But it's fine though because I was able to talk and see my family in the Philippines through internet. And I also love the time hubby and I spend time alone to each other... We watched movie the whole night while waiting for "New Year"...
Happy New Year!!!.....

i feel for you. it's tough being away from home. but you know what, in my village here in Cagayan de Oro, the celebrations were a bit subdued. firecrackers were a bit limited before midnight and we were not able to prepare our fruits and candies. i guess these are signs of the economic crisis
